Countries are for sale.

This story was written with the assistance of an AI writing program.

So are starnations.

There are three categories of nations in Maf: Starfleet Battles.

  1. Planetary Governments
  2. Star-Traveling Civilizations
  3. Starnations

Planetary Governments

A Planetary Government is any nation-state, citystate, or governmental jurisdiction that is bounded to a planet and whose borders and jurisdiction are restricted to borders on or within a planet.

A Planetary Government is any form of government whose borders are restricted to a planet and may vary across any technological level from agrarian to pre-industrial to pre-space or even space capable.

A space-capable Planetary Government may or may not have an active space program but it retains the capability to access space if it so chooses.

Most often, a space-capable Planetary Government will have satellites in space even if it doesn’t maintain an active space program or manned space program.

2. Space-Traveling Civilization

A Space-Traveling Civilization (STC) is any nation with an active presence in space.

Its borders must have planetary bound borders but may also include political or jurisdictional areas in space or aboard spacecraft or moons.

A STC will have no more three permanent orbital space stations and or no more than three ships permanently stationed in space.

These ships must be built and designed for space travel only and will not be capable of entering a planet’s atmosphere.

3. Starnation

A Starnation is a nation-state bounded by borders in space.

It must consist of no less than two occupied solar systems and have four or more ships solely for the purpose of operations in space and be incapable of entering a planet’s atmosphere.

It must have no less than two active orbital space stations within its jurisdiction.

A Starnation may or may not have borders on any planetary body.

Purchase

Planetary Governments, Star-Traveling Civilizations and Starnations are all for sale in the game.

Planetary Government Cost

The purchase price of a planetary government is based on the following formula:

Population in Millions times Median Income times 100 minus the average national Tax Rate, divided by 10,000.

$257.13 US DollarsExample:

Nation of Desteria.

Population: 55,000,000

Median Income: 55,000 (in constant Helvatica Dollars)

Tax Rate: 15%

Formula: 55 x 55,000 x (1.00-.15) = .85

55 x 55,000 x .85 = 2,571,250

Purchase Price: 2,571,250 divided by 10,000 = 257.13 U.S. Dollars

Star-Traveling Civilization Cost

The purchase price of an STC is based on the following formula:

Population in Millions times Median Income times 100 minus the average national Tax Rate, divided by 7,000.

Example:

STC: Baylus

Population: 175,000,000

Median Income $125,000

National Tax Rate: 34%

Formula: 175 x 125,000 x .66 = $14,437,500

Purchase Price: $14,437,500 divided by 7,000 = $2,062.50 U.S. Dollars

Starnation Cost

Nation: Interstellar Republic

Population: 14 billion

Median Income: 283,000

National Tax Rate: 32%

Formula: 14,000 x 283,000 x .32 = $2,694,160,000

Divide by 1,000

Purchase Price: $2,694,160,000 divided by 1,000 = $2,694,160

Cost Prohibitive

Players who wish to purchase a Starnation may do so. But the cost is anticipated to be out of the range for most players.

Options

Instead, to rule a Starnation, select the role of Empire Builder and request a Starnation.

Your request will be granted if a Starnation is available.

You will receive a Starnation consisting of at least two separate solar systems and up to four, selected at random and depending upon what is available.

The Empire Builder role includes the purchase of additional solar systems at the cost of $1,000 USD per solar system.
