Maf: Starfleet Battles is the first game specifically designed for players to make a livable income while playing a fun game with rich content and a deep backstory.

This story was written with the assistance of an AI writing program.

Featuring a procedurally-generated, persistent universe, Maf: Starfleet Battles maintains an infinite universe in a true sandbox fashion with a completely player-driven economy.

You can play for free or you can choose to buy a “Game License” and make a livable income while playing.

Let’s see how that works.

The following are all assumptions based on non-public use of the game and the final income figures may (Will) differ wildly from those listed here.

The entry-level “Game License” is $25. Four options are available for you at this price.

  • Restaurant License
  • Engineering and Research Company License
  • Nightclub License
  • Buy a Planet

Let’s take a dive into a Restaurant.

As a player you won’t need to calculate all the following costs or income, the game does that automatically for you.

These examples are just a representation of how the game works and how you could be making money from playing.

A Restaurant License costs $25 to buy.

You will need to spend additional in-game money (Helvatica Dollars or Stellar Credits) to buy a lot, build your restaurant and pay taxes. (Yep, there are taxes.)

These expenses could cost as much 1 million Helvatica Dollars. 1 million Helvatica Dollars = $1.00 USD.

So now you’ve spent $26 to get started in the game, how much could you get back?

Restaurants make money by selling meals to customers just like in real-life.

Your customer base is calculated as a percentage of the metropolitan area your restaurant is located in.

The average income per table is a calculation based on the “class” of Restuarant — Family Style, Buffet, Luxury, etc.

The average Restaurant located in the capital city of Kila Vas is assumed to return approximately $1,000 Helvatica Dollars per day per table, for a Family Style Restaurant at the default setting.

If you have 30 tables, your restaurant will be making $30,000 Helvatica Dollars per day.

What if we increase that to 90 tables? That would equal $90,000 Helvatica Dollars per day.

How long will it take for you to recover your costs and begin making a real-world profit?

You’ve spent $26 USD (or the equivalent). At $90,000 Helvatica Dollars a day for income it’ll require just over 288 days for you to start making a profit.

After that, your income is 9 US cents per day, ($.09) per restaurant.

Sounds dismal I know, but it gets better.

Want to make more money?

You can do several things.

  1. Upgrade your restaurant to a higher class.
  2. Build more restaurants.
  3. Increase the number of tables in each restaurant.
  4. Tweak the numbers.

1 to 3 are probably obvious so I won’t discuss them here.

As a business owner (a Game License owner), you receive a spreadsheet representing your Game License.

You can download this or use it online whenever you log into the game.

4. Tweak the numbers.

The default option is set at $1,000 per day roughly, per table for a Family Style restaurant.

Look through your spreadsheet and begin working with the numbers and tables you see there.

You can easily increase your income to over $3,000 per day per table by hiring a chef, selling drinks from the bar, manipulating staffing totals, etc.

Using these methods, and by optimizing the restaurant, I’ve been able to create restaurants that easily bring in nearly $10,000 per day, per table.

Some of my restaurants generate over $3,000,000 Helvatica Dollars per day. That equals $3 USD per real-world day.

$26 USD divided by $3 USD equals 8.7 days. You’ll have recovered your initial investment in just over a week and will be earning $3 USD a day after that — withdrawable by you at any time.

Build 100 restaurants and you could be withdrawing $300 USD per real-world day!

And a restaurant is less profitable than a Nightclub (which also includes local bars).

Hotel License — $25,000 USD

That’s a lot of money to spend for a game, right?

So for that kind of money, it had better be returning some impressive numbers.

It does.

Again, you’ll need to buy a lot, build your hotel and pay taxes.

These activities have cost me another $495 USD.

So far, I’ve spent $25,495 to build and staff my Hotel.

But I have a 5,000-room Hotel.

A hotel room is based at 100 square meters in size for a Family Class hotel.

The average room rental rate is $2,160 per day per room for a Family Class Hotel.

The occupancy rate is 86%.

$2,160 times 5,000 times 86% = $9,288,000 ($ 9.288 USD) per day.

So when do I make a profit? 2,744 days.

Ugh.

What do I do?

The biggest expense is the License fee ($25,000).

So I decided to spend $4,950 USD to build 10 hotels.

Total expense = 25,000 + 4,950 = $29,950 USD.

My Hotel income is now $92,880,000 Helvatica Dollars per day.

(Pre-tweak!)

My annual income is now $35,294,400,000.

I recover my investment in 309.73 days.

After that, I am earning $96 USD per day.

That equals $35,040 USD annually!

(The differences in amounts are due to game-time versus real-time.)

If I want to earn more I can tweak my hotel.

A 100 square meter room is a Huge room!

I have the capability of cutting this into 3 rooms of roughly 33 square meters each and I have (almost) just tripled my income!

(Game Hint: Cutting your rooms up into smaller slices does not change your construction costs!)

Almost triple my income, because the average income per room decreases by one class.

You have the ability to make many more tweaks with your hotel.

Simply adding hotels is the easiest and least expensive option and makes the largest and most dramatic difference in your income.

Finally let’s take a look at a Bank License.

The Bank License, Casino License and the City Section of Kila Vas are the most expensive single-use Game Licenses in the game.

These are Tier 7 Licenses and each Tier 7 Game License includes one Hotel License, (Tier 6), one Tier 5 License and one Tier 3 License.

Bank License — $100,000 USD

An in-game bank functions similar in manner to that of a real-world bank.

As a Bank License owner, your Bank will accept deposits, pay interest on those deposits and make loans to other players who will in turn pay you interest on those loans using real-world USD, Euros, British Pounds or crypto.

But how much can you make?

Let’s take a “for instance.”

“Roger’s Big Bank” has paid $100,000 USD for a Bank License.

Of that, $1,000 USD is retained by the game to offset any refunds or disputes by other players.

The game will also deposit $1,000 USD into the player’s bank.

This money cannot be withdrawn, exchanged or spent by the Bank owner, it can only be loaned out to other players in terms of game currency, (Helvatica Dollars or Stellar Credits).

As in the real world, your Bank can loan out 9 times the total amount of deposits in your bank.

So your bank’s $1,000 USD just magically became $9,000 USD that you can lend in-game.

This money cannot be withdrawn from the game by the Bank owner or the receiver of the loan.

Instead, the recipient of the loan makes any in-game purchases they wish — to buy equipment, spacecraft, minerals, ores, buildings, weapons, equipment, etc.

Then beginning in the next month, they must now begin making interest payments to your Bank using real-world USD, Euros, GBPs or Crypto.

Let’s say Roger’s Big Bank has just rendered a loan to an in-game corporation — “Farnsworth Industries” for $900,000,000 Stellar Credits (the maximum amount of a loan to any single player is 10% of total Bank deposits).

This could be a loan of either Helvatica Dollars or Stellar Credits.

The player receives a Loan Credit of $900,000,000 to his Game Dashboard that he may spend in-game as he sees fit, but he cannot withdraw any of this money at any time.

If you give him a real-world one-year loan at 10% interest his Loan Credit will be automatically deducted for $75,000,000 each month and redeposited at your Bank.

In addition, he must pay you $7,500,000 Helvatica Dollars in interest to you each month.

That equals $7.50 USD per month.

Multiply this by 9 and you are receiving $67.50 per month in USD.

Doesn’t sound like much does it and certainly — so far — it doesn’t seem worth the $100,000 USD you spent for the Bank License.

But this is where it gets good.

All players must deposit their in-game money with a bank.

What if all those 9 players use your bank for their accounts?

Those 9 loans you just lent out are now redeposited at your bank, and you’ve just doubled your deposits!

Instead of $900,000,000 Helvatica Dollars you now have $1.8 billion Helvatica Dollars in deposits.

What do you do next?

Loan it out!

If you have $1,800,000,000 in deposits, you can now loan out $16.2 billion dollars!

At 10% annual interest, (.83% monthly interest) you’d be receiving $1,620,000,000 annually or $1,620 USD.

Still not worth the $100,000 Game License perhaps, not yet.

But what if each time you received an interest payment you immediately loaned it out at 9 times its value?

Let’s go back to the first example.

Farnsworth Industries is paying you $7,500,000 in interest each month.

This is a deposit to your bank.

Can’t you then loan out $67,500,000 immediately? (= 9 x $7,500,000)

Yes, you can.

And can you do this 8 more times, immediately?

Yes.

Now how much are you receiving each month?

$7,500,000 x 9 = $67,500,000

+

$67,000,000 x 9 = $607,500,000 additional loans during the first month.

According to my spreadsheet, if you repeated this for a year, and players had their accounts at separate banks (not yours) your income would be as follows:

Month 1 = $75 USD

Month 2 = $136.88 USD

Month 3 = $249.80 USD

Month 4 = $455.88 USD

Month 5 = $831.98 USD

Month 6 = $1,518.36 USD

Month 7 = $2,771.01 USD

Month 8 = $5,057.10 USD

Month 9 = $9,229.20 USD

Month 10 = $19,659.47 USD

Month 11 = $34,783.35 USD

Month 12 = $61,250.15 USD

Annual Total = $136,018.18 USD

What month do you receive $100,000 USD or more?

Month 13 total income = $107,567.04 USD.

There are other ways of making money with a bank.

What if you create a company, have your bank loan 10% of deposits to your own company and then your company deposits that loan with your bank?

You can only do this once, but you can now immediately loan that money out again. And, even though it’s your company, that company must pay interest on the loan and loan principal will be automatically deducted from the lendee’s account and returned to the lending bank.

What else can you do?

What if you require each person who receives a loan from your bank to deposit that loan in your bank?

Now what if you did this just 4 times a month, how much would you make?

In your first month of receipts (Month 2), you’d receive $300 USD.

In month 4, you’d receive $999.19 USD.

You’d receive $107,855.92 in month 11,

And $1,076,585.81 USD in month 15!

And that’s just if you do this once a week for the first month.

What if you did this 10 times in the first month?

In the second month you would receive $750 USD, $27,710.12 USD in month 8, $1,074,995.36 USD in month 14 and $1,961,866.54 in month 15!

Is this likely, No. Is it possible, maybe.
