Letter to North Brookfield

Dear Citizens of North Brookfield,
I, Perry N. Jones, a resident of North Brookfield, am pleased yet humbled to announce that I am running for President of the United States as a Conservative, Christian Democrat on a write-in vote.
Tomorrow, Super Tuesday, you have the choice of the old same-old, same-old, or of trying for someone new, someone different, someone better. Write in my name, Perry Jones, as your choice for President of the United States.
This is not an easy decision for me, I know the ridicule and dissension my choice will most likely cause throughout North Brookfield. But I believe I am being called by God to fulfill a purpose only He can imagine. I believe the future is bright, the opportunities are vast and that tomorrow will bring peace and prosperity, if only we choose wisely today.
Although I have been in the Philippines for the past year, my home remains in North Brookfield where I maintain my legal residence (and where I still get my mail). And I will rejoin you soon.
I grew up here, playing in the streets, haying in the fields at Wendumuth’s Meadow, exploring the Small Pox Cave and the fields, hills and streams all around Bates Street, Ayers Street and South Main Street.
I went to school here, first at Grove Street School and then North Brookfield High School, where I watched the Indians play in their purple and white against teams all across Massachusetts, with Joe Dupell and Joe Jablonski making point after point, and with the Indians beating teams many times our size.
We stood together for the Pledge of Allegiance, our hands covering our hearts in a solemn vow now long since forgotten. We watched our veterans march through the streets in the summer, my dad and others marching, later he rode in the car. Our hearts beat proud as we stood and cheered these men and women who fought and served for our nation — and for North Brookfield.
Summers were a special time, haying in the fields, my brother fished at Doane’s Pond and my younger sister and I would go with him to catch fish. Warm nights, long daylight hours, but summers were always so brief.
As you know, winters can sometimes be — hard. The blizzard of ’78 crippled our small town for days, yet, at 18, I thought it was a blast! Hard, but a blast. In our youth, my sister and I and a multitude of friends (and relatives) sledded down the hill at Wendumuth’s, later we sipped hot cocoa my mom made for us over a wood burning stove in the kitchen, burning the wood my dad had so laboriously split and stacked.
I moved away several times, once to Arizona where I stayed for 12 years returning in 2009 to help my mom raise my daughter who I had reluctantly left behind.
But now, the future is calling, not just for me, but for all of us.
America is at a crossroads, and I know you wish you could do something — anything — to help, to make a difference, to help the healing begin, to bring people together, to make things right, where now things seem so wrong.
You can.
You can help. You can help the process of healing a nation that is torn and hurting. You can help people who feel isolated and alone. And you can help North Brookfield. Reach out to your friends and neighbors, and lend a hand.
You know what to do, I have faith you will do it, North Brookfield is resilient in that way.
Today, I am running for President. The choice is not an easy one. I know the condemnation this choice will most likely generate. But with you, North Brookfield behind me, and God at my side — and leading me, I also know we can do that which has not yet been done; to push this nation to heal, to make right that which is wrong, to unite as neighbors and friends, to build, instead of destroy and to bring peace, prosperity, hope, good health, laughter, joy and happiness, not only to the nation, not only to the varied multifabric of the many streets of America, but to North Brookfield, and into your home, to your family and to your friends.
I do not embark on this journey lightly, nor do I do it alone. I know you, North Brookfield, will help in every way you can.
A New Day is Dawning. Begin the process of healing a nation, of bringing peace to the streets and prosperity, harmony, vision, hope and happiness into the homes of America, into the homes of a divided nation, into the homes of North Brookfield, and into your home.
Write me in tomorrow as your choice for President of the United States. Let a New Day begin.
I am sincerely and humbly,
Perry Jones
A Conservative, Christian Democrat
