Glossary
Corporation. Any organization, association, incorporated or non-incorporated business or non-profit operating as a for-profit enterprise or to the public benefit.
Planetary Country or Nation. A nation-state with clearly defined borders, a political structure bound by those borders, with an active military and/or police system, judiciary and economic system also bound by the same borders.
A planetary country or nation may or may not have access to space or may be pre-space in technology.
If this state has access to space, it generally has no permanent inhabited structures in space and no clearly established space program other than the possible occasional launches for satellites and research.
Space-Travelling Civilization. A planetary nation that has an active space program but that has no more than three permanent inhabited space stations and or no more than three non-planetary spacecraft (spacecraft permanently stationed in space incapable of landing on a planet’s surface and or of penetrating a planetary atmosphere).
Starnation. A nation with no less than four permanently inhabited space stations And four permanent non-planetary spacecraft And habitations within no less than two solar systems.
HD. Helvatica Dollars. One million Helvatica Dollars equals one U.S. dollar ($1.00)
3,000 Corporations
Maf: Starfleet Battles is a rich and robust MMORPG with a deep and broad backstory. Part of this backstory is the existence of more than 3,000 corporations in the game. Several hundred of these are for sale to players at any given time.
Corporations, however defined (see above), exist to fulfill a multitude of missions and business objectives.
From mining, construction, deep sea fishing, pipelines, cruise lines, airlines, aircraft manufacturing, vehicle manufacturing, weapons manufacture, casinos, hotels and banks to mom and pop stores, local bakeries, coffee shops, mall kiosks, sports stadium stands, bars, nightclubs, restaurants, pet stores, fashion stores, up to giant many-location retailers and interstellar trading companies, corporations exist for nearly every purpose and activity.
Of these, many are for sale to players.
The income from these businesses are paid to owning players once a month in real-world time.
Businesses for sale are organized into four Tiers based on the Return of Investment.
Tier 36 businesses are the smallest businesses.
Income from these businesses ranges from less than HD 100,000 a year to HD 5,000,000 a year.
The purchase price for a Tier 36 business is 36 times monthly earnings.
Example: Joe’s Teas is a local teashop that has annual revenues of HD 100,000.
Your real-world income is 1 US cent per year or 0.008333 per month.
It can be purchased for $0.30 real-world USD.
Tier 30 Business
A Tier 30 business has an income range of HD 5,000,001 to HD 100,000,000.
Maximum monthly income is HD 8,333,333.
These businesses can be purchased for 30 times monthly earnings.
A HD 100,000,000 will provide you with a real world income of $8.33 a month and can be purchased (in this example) for $250 USD.
Tier 20 Business
Tier 20 businesses range in income from HD 100,000,001 to HD 500,000,000. In real-world terms these yield $167 USD to $500 USD annually.
These businesses can be purchased for 20 times earnings.
Tier 12 Business
A Tier 12 business is a big business with net income ranging from HD 500,000,001 to over HD 1,000,000,000,000.
Real world income ranges from $41.67 ($500 annually) to over $83,333.33 per month or over $1,000,000 annually.
In this example, this business can be purchased for $1,000,000 USD.
